Getting to know this year’s online class

More than 500 Mizzou students finished their degrees online this year at all academic levels:

  • 97 bachelor’s degrees
  • 364 master’s degrees
  • 27 education specialist degrees
  • 72 doctorates

The online class of ’17 ranges in age from 21 to 66. They represent 45 states and Canada, Great Britain, Korea, Panama and Philippines.

Attending commencement activities is sometimes a distance student’s only visit to the Mizzou campus. In Kevin Poeter’s case, his arrival in Columbia marked his second trip from Edmonton, Alberta to campus. “I came to Mizzou at the beginning of my graduate program to meet my faculty,” Poeter said. Poeter received his master of education in positive coaching.

10 graduates have been recipients of the Mizzou Online Military Tuition Award, which provides a 10 percent reduction for members of the Military, National Guard/Reserves or who are Veterans, spouses or dependents. Three graduates received the Mizzou Online Community College Tuition Award, which provides a 10 percent reduction for Missouri residents who are graduates of a Missouri public community college. Both tuition awards are for students in distance degree programs.
