Worldwide, millions of children and adults are learning English. MU's program options that focus on Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) will challenge you to discover new ways to expand your views of teaching and culture by bringing together educators from across Missouri, the nation, and the world.

Our online offerings will provide you with the practical tools you need to reach students who do not use English as their primary language — whether you teach domestically or internationally.

Choose the option that fits your personal and professional goals:
  • The master's degree (M Ed) is 33-credit hours and is intended for individuals who are currently teaching or who are interested in teaching ESL/EFL in various types of educational settings.
  • The graduate certificate program consists of 18-credit hours and is designed for recent college graduates, career changers, or retirees.
  • If you already have initial teaching certification and want to add certification in ESOL, this 21-hour Missouri ESOL certification preparation program is for you.
