Students who pursue the family nurse practitioner MS(N) will:

  • Learn to provide lifelong, comprehensive primary health care to families through disease management, health education and preventative health services;
  • Understand how to work independently and collaboratively to integrate advanced knowledge in the delivery of health care to all populations including rural and underserved communities;
  • Be eligible for advanced practice nurse certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).

This program is blended: You may complete all course work online but an on-campus visit is required once per year.

Faculty spotlight

Miriam has been an RN since 1987. She has worked in a variety of roles, including staff nurse and nurse manager in medical-surgical, cardiothoracic and neurosurgery. Miriam has worked as a Family Nurse Practitioner since 1997, working in public health, GYN-oncology surgery — chemo certified, retail health, employee health and clinic manager/director. She joined the Sinclair School of Nursing in 2014. In 2017 she worked with a local health department to establish a mobile clinic to provide health care to rural and underserved populations in the county.
