This award honors an outstanding online course supported by Mizzou Online that was delivered in the previous academic year with the instruction mode of online (OL) or e-learning (EL). It recognizes the accomplishment of the instructor, instructional designer and/or course developer who worked together to create an exemplary course. Courses will be evaluated on factors such as implementation of a creative approach to one or more emerging instructional challenges, well-designed course materials and use of appropriate instructional strategies. Awards will be presented at the annual Celebration of Teaching Conference. Recipients will be notified 5-10 days prior to the Celebration of Teaching.

Award: $500

Award applied to professional development activities including conference or webinar registration, books, resources, etc. As a recipient, you will be invited to participate in a campus conference or presentation so that your work may be shared with the campus community.

Eligibility

Any faculty member with a primary teaching appointment is eligible, including tenure track, nonregular, and clinical faculty. Instructional designers and academic technology liaisons (ATLs) are also eligible.

Nominations

Anyone affiliated with MU is eligible to nominate individuals for this award. Self-nominations are also accepted.

Nominations will be accepted for the following categories:

  • Undergraduate Teaching (1 award)
  • Graduate and Professional Teaching (1 award)

Nominations should take the form of a letter that:

  1. Describes features of the course that make it noteworthy,
  2. Explains how the course design creatively explains an instructional challenge,
  3. Cites specific examples of instructional strategies that enhance student learning, and
  4. Describes why the individual should receive the award.

Nomination deadline: March 1, 2017. Courses delivered in any of these terms (Spring 2016, Summer 2016 or Fall 2016) are eligible.

Review process

Members of Mizzou Onlineā€™s Advisory Council and campus e-mentors will review all nomination materials and select the award recipients. Nominees may be asked to allow the reviewers access to their online course site.
