The National Council of State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) has been busy this summer, adding a number of updates to its web site:

  • If you haven’t visited the NC-SARA web site lately, there is a new look and feel. According to NC-SARA, “Our new website provides a clear message of who we are, what we stand for, and where our value likes when NC-SARA, in collaboration with the four regional higher education compacts, was established to develop and implement an effective and efficient reciprocal state-level authorization process for postsecondary distance education.
  • The State Authorization Guide has been added to the NC-SARA web site. The State Authorization Guide is a collection of state laws, regulations, and requirements for institutions who are serving out-of-state students. As you remember, this comprehensive tool replaces the SHEEO (State Higher Education Executive Officers Association) web site in terms of state authorization information at your fingertips. One can search The Guide by state or by topic.
  • At the May meeting, the NC-SARA Board adopted a new mission statement, acknowledging the many changes that have occurred in SARA since its inception. The new mission statement can be found on the NC-SARA website.
  • Lori Williams, Ph.D., was named the President and Chief Executive Officer of NC-SARA, taking over for Marshall Hill who retired recently. Williams has more than 25 years experience in education. She served as vice president at the WASC Senior College and University Commission. Previous positions include provost, vice provost, vice president, executive director, and other academic administrative roles.
