TESOL: Online master’s degree
Master of education in learning, teaching and curriculum with an emphasis in teaching English to speakers of other languages (M Ed)
Missouri K-12 ESOL certification preparation
This online program is designed to meet the needs of practicing teachers who already have initial teacher certification and are seeking ESOL Certification in the state of Missouri. While other states in the U.S. may accept these courses towards ESOL certification, applicants should inquire with their state educational accrediting entity to confirm that TESOL courses from MU will meet their local requirements.
The TESOL courses in this program encompass all competencies required by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) for Missouri K-12 ESOL certification.
Delivery of this program is 100 percent online: no campus visits are required.
Certification requires successful completion of 21 credit hours of TESOL courses included in the online TESOL master’s program plus at least 3 credit hours from the courses listed below.
Note ESOL certification in Missouri requires LTC 8642 and SPC_ED 7300 or equivalent course work. If you did not complete these requirements as an undergraduate, you must do so at the graduate level.
The chart below shows when the courses are traditionally offered. Courses are 3 credit hours each, unless indicated otherwise. The University reserves the right to change or cancel courses as needed.

Important If you take individual courses as a post-baccalaureate and plan to apply course credit toward the M Ed program, you must be accepted into the degree program before you finish 9 credit hours of course work.
