Courses

Courses are mostly asynchronous, without scheduled meeting times. Some sessions are synchronous with a scheduled meeting time on Zoom.

Internship

Students are required to complete 2 credit hours of internship during their coursework, which can be completed at their home institution.

An 8-credit-hour internship is required to fulfill student teaching and can be completed at your home institution.

To complete your studies, you can intern in a school district that is convenient for you. If you’ve been hired to teach under temporary authorization then you can complete your internship at your home institution. If you teach at a private school, you may be able to complete your internship at that institution depending on the school’s accreditation status by a DESE approved accrediting body. This can be researched by Mizzou’s field coordinator when you are accepted into the program.

Capstone interview

A reflective capstone interview with faculty serves as the culminating assignment for degree completion.

State teaching certification requirements

Each state has its own certification requirements. It is the student's responsibility to check with your state’s certification agency to determine if the master’s course work meets your state’s criteria. The program is designed to meet Missouri’s DESE certification requirements.

Course planner

The chart below shows the courses offered in the program. Courses are 3 credit hours each, unless stated otherwise. The University reserves the right to change or cancel courses as needed.

Non degree-seeking enrollment

Prior to acceptance into the program, you may enroll in up to 6 credit hours as a non degree-seeking (in some cases, post-baccalaureate) student. Enrollment does not guarantee acceptance. Learn more about non degree-seeking university student admissions.

State authorization

States require that the University of Missouri be authorized to deliver university-level distance/online education to their residents. Each state handles this process differently.

Please see our state authorization page for more information.
