Gather Your Papers

Applying will be easier and faster if you gather these required documents beforehand:

  • Transcripts of all previous college or university education. Upload unofficial transcripts in your online application. If you are accepted, you will be asked to provide official transcripts.
  • Résumé or CV.
  • Statement of purpose describing your academic and career background and goals.
  • One letter of recommendation. Supply names and contact details for two professional references who can attest to your critical thinking, your analytical and writing skills and your ability to succeed in graduate-level coursework. Letters from friends, family members, or co-workers who are not supervisors to whom you report or from anyone not familiar with your scholastic aptitude for graduate-level coursework are not appropriate, and will not count toward a completed application.
  • Responses to essay question prompts. These questions are to help us determine your ability to succeed in an online certificate program. Please answer each prompt in a paragraph or two (150 words or fewer).
    • Working with people is an essential part of the school librarian’s job. Describe your preparation for working in this service-based and user-focused environment (e.g., educational experiences, past work experiences, etc.)
    • Technology is another essential aspect of work in the information professions. It is used in many aspects of our work as individuals, and for collaborating as professionals. Describe some ways that you have used technology to enhance your teaching and learning
    • The connection between information, technology and people is mediated by professional action undertaken by individuals and professional associations. How do you see yourself contributing to the profession of school librarianship?
  • TOEFL, IELTS, PTE or C1 Advanced score reports for applicants whose native language is not English. For information on sending test scores, visit the Grad School website.
  • Please feel free to submit any other materials that you feel would give a clearer picture of your qualifications.
