Courses for this program are 100 percent online: no campus visits are required.
Your degree requires 120 credit hours, which may include transfer credits from other regionally accredited institutions and credit hours from your associate's degree in nursing.
The courses you take will include:
- MU general education requirements;
- Completion of the following courses is required before starting RN-BSN courses:
- Anatomy
- General Psychology
- General Sociology
- Human Development/Lifespan Psychology
- Microbiology
- Nutrition
- Physiology
- Statistics
- 4 credit hours from N4970 Nursing in Communities (offered in summer), which has a 45-hour clinical (you may complete this clinical using a local community agency);
- 26 credit hours from the MU RN-to-BSN program.
Transfer students
The number of credits you need to take will depend on the type of previous credit earned and the institutions' accreditation and transfer equivalencies. The admissions office will determine your transfer credit once they receive your official transcripts and application. Visit the University of Missouri Course Equivalency site to determine credit equivalencies from courses taken at other Missouri institutions.
You also may email your unofficial transcripts to the RN-to-BSN academic advisor, who can evaluate your credit and give you a timeline for starting the program.

The length of your program will depend on your completion of equivalent prerequisite courses and transferred credits.
Course planner
The chart below shows when required courses are traditionally offered. Courses are 3 credit hours each, unless otherwise noted. The University reserves the right to change or cancel courses as needed. Work closely with an advisor to develop a semester plan that fits your schedule and graduation goals.
