Faculty spotlight

Lea Cheyney Brandt

Lea Cheyney Brandt serves as director of the University of Missouri’s (Mizzou) Center for Health Ethics and medical director of clinical ethics and consultation services for the health system. In her role with the Center, Dr. Brandt sits on several ethics-related committees, serves as the ethics policy content expert, works as a clinical ethics consultant, chairs the clinical ethics committee, and serves as an investigator on multiple grants. She teaches clinical ethics throughout Mizzou’s health system. 

Dr. Brandt earned a doctorate from Mizzou’s Sinclair School of Nursing, where her dissertation explored the ethical behavior of clinicians through pedagogical innovation. She has also earned a post-professional doctorate in occupational therapy.

She has authored and co-authored publications and continuing education materials on ethics in practice. She also lectures nationally and internationally on clinical ethics, education and professionalism in practice topics.

Clayton Clark

Clayton Clark has experience in medical-surgical, mental health and nursing ethics specialties. Dr. Clark serves as associate director for the University of Missouri (Mizzou) Center for Health Ethics and practices as a clinical ethics consultant. He also works as part of Mizzou’s Continuing Education for Health Professions team. His research interests focus on spiritual coping for both patients and caregivers during chronic, life-threatening and terminal cardiac illnesses.

He earned a graduate certificate in health ethics from Mizzou and a doctorate in nursing from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
