Graduates of the MSN nurse educator program take positions as faculty and administrators in schools of nursing, or nurse educators in hospital and other institutional settings.
Program structure
Delivery of this program is blended: You will complete most course work online, but on-campus visits are required. Courses are semester-based. Full-time students may take three courses per semester and finish in two years. Part-time students may take one or two courses per semester and finish in three years.

Faculty spotlight
Nancy Willis-Smith has worked with UMKC since 2003. She started in Joplin, MO with the distance program, became the Joplin Site Coordinator in 2010 and became the family nurse practitioner track coordinator in 2016. She is double certified as a family nurse practitioner and a women's health nurse practitioner and received her doctor of nursing practice in 2011. She was awarded the "Award of Excellence" for the state of Missouri by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners in 2006. Willis-Smith practices 2 days a week for Ozark's Community Hospital clinics in Webb City and Carthage, MO.
Kristin Lee has been a full-time faculty member at the University of Missouri-Kansas City since 2003. She has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses and has previously served as the BSN Program Director, Interim Associate Dean for Academics and Associate Dean for Program Evaluation. She currently serves as the Track Coordinator of the MSN Nurse Educator Track and teaches full time in the graduate program. Dr. Lee was previously certified as a Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) and currently certified as a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE).
Her research interests include teaching strategies that facilitate clinical reasoning and judgment in nursing. She has published her work, presented internationally and consults in best practices in teaching and assessment in nursing education. She graduated with a BSN from Purdue University, an MSN with a nurse educator emphasis from UMKC and a PhD in Nursing from Saint Louis University.
